Durations: 5 min. 30 sec
Special Equipment: MR compatible audio system and headphones
Description: The task is a frequency-modulated tone task wherein random tones between 400Hz and 1.5 kHz are presented at 0.5-1 second intervals for 0.5-1.5 seconds each. 30-second blocks of these tones (the stimulus interval) are interleaved with 30-second blocks of silence (the control interval) to create a 5.5 minute long task. The auditory input to the subjects is delivered through a calibrated MR compatible audio system (Avotec SS3100) with levels set to exceed the measured audiometric hearing thresholds of each patient by approximately 10 dB.
